Investkredit Bank AG contributes as a trustee for Austrian industrial companies with EUR 7 m in the KfW Carbon Fund.
This Fund represents a procurement programme of the German KfW Bankengruppe for the purchase of emission credits from climate protection projects abroad, the so-called JI/CDM (Joint Implementation/Clean Development Mechanism) – Projects.
Within the framework of the European system for trading emissions Austrian companies must save an annual 1.65 m tonnes of CO2 by 2007. Through the purchase of emission credits via the KfW Fund companies can meet their obligations from this system cost efficiently. Thus the Austrian industry has access to an additional instrument besides stock exchange dealings and financing instruments off the floor of the stock exchange.
The special thing about an exclusive partnership between the KfW Bankengruppe and Investkredit Bank AG is that via this cooperation Austrian companies with a volume of below the other required minimum participation of EUR 500,000.- may also take part in this fund. In addition by outsourcing the purchase activities to the Fund the risks are also spread out among several climate protection projects.
The KfW climate protection fund is, in total, remunerated with about EUR 87 m and provides the fund members with up to 2012 emission credits to the value of its participation. The fund involves German, French, Luxembourg and Austrian companies or institutions.
From Austria renowned companies from the electricity and mineral oil industries as well as the glass and brick industries take part via Investkredit Bank AG. With the subscribed participation volume of EUR 7 m, about 8 % to 10 % of the total Austrian savings requirements of the companies participating in emission trade can be covered – according to further price development of emission credits.
